Question:

Laptop doesnt recognise the charger?

Hi, i have a Compaq Presario CQ61. have had it for a few years and replaced the battery and charger once or twice each. Anyway with the last charger and my current charger i have realised that when i plug in the charger, the battery icon on my computer does not recognise that the charger is plugged in. the light on my laptop lights up when plugged in and my battery level rises but the icon does not change. Now this doesnt bother me but i am wanting to format my laptop's HDD and when i try do so it says The laptop must me plugged into the AC adaptor to perform a format of the HDD. What could be the problem? Driver problem maybe? occasionally it will pick up that the charger is in but not often. not a battery problem because i have tried many batteries.Cheers

Answer:

It sounds like there's a problem with your windows OS. You could try booting from your Windows install CD from a cold boot. Since if that light is lighting up that means the computer itself recognizes it, though windows for some reason doesnt so you can get around that by booting from your windows install DVD/CD. If you're computer came with a manual look up how to get into the bios and set the boot order. Find out how to set your CD drive to the top of the list so your computer boots from the DVD/CD
