Question:

LCD Monitor vs LCD TV ?

I'm buying the display screen for my ps3 but I don't know which is better and what are the differences ?Price is not major factor, also are monitors usually smaller than TVs ?

Answer:

The main difference is a TV has a TV tuner built-in, whereas a monitor does not. After that, monitors don't generally go above 30 inches or so, whereas TVs keep getting bigger and bigger. At the same time, some monitors can support higher resolutions than what TVs can support. Your PS3 can only use a maximum resolution of 1080p, so buying any screen (TV or Monitor) that can do greater than 1080p would be a waste. After that, it's just a matter of how large of a screen do you want. If you aren't sharing this screen with a computer, then you might as well just get a 1080p capable TV. This way if you have other TV devices (blu-ray player, other game consoles, etc.) you can more easily connect them to the TV. I'm using a 32 Acer TV (yeah, I know, Acer is a computer company but this monitor has a TV tuner in it, so) My PC is on 1 HDMI port, and my Xbox 360 is on another HDMI port.
Monitor Vs Tv
It depends on how important you think graphics mean to you. An LCD TV is bigger than most monitors but sometimes have issues with input lag, which is how long it takes to display an image on the screen so the tv can process the image and make the resulting image more vivid and colorful. An LCD monitor, however, do not process the images, they merely show it, which results in no input lag, but typical monitors are smaller. So, the bottom line is if you sit farther away from your tv and like colorful picture quality, than an LCD tv is for you. If you sit closer to the tv and like fast gameplay, than an LCD monitor is for you.
