If it‘s snowing or if the forecast says it‘s going to snow, I‘ve seen people leaving their windshield wipers vertical (not on the windshield). I heard it‘s because they don‘t want it to get frozen so they work better when you use them again. I also heard it can be bad for the windshield wiper? If anyone has any clue or advice let me know! All I know is that it‘s extremely annoying trying to use my windshield wipers when there‘s huge chunks of ice on them in the winter! )
The idea of it being bad is that strong wind and freezing rain can wreak havoc on them sitting up like that. It can damage the arm that holds the blade and such. Honestly I never had problem with it, but I clean my BLADE OFF as well. Wipe them off and get the ice off of them.
No - and it has one considerable downside, if left in that place once you start up off the vehicle they'll at cutting-edge attempt to run or circulate to the park place, in the event that they are frozen to the glass this could harm the motor or the linkage or the two - If the wipers are parked and rancid once you start up off your vehicle in the event that they are frozen to the windshield they'll wait patiently which you would be able to loosen them with a scraper or for the warmth to construct interior the engine and defrost the windshield before you turn them on. and you certainly do not want to expend a $a hundred and fifty wiper motor!
In snow and ice areas you can buy “winter wiper blades”. These wipers have the frame work of the wiper enclosed in rubber. This prevents the snow and ice from building up and turning the wiper into useless pieces of frozen rubber. When using your wipers in the winter, make sure you turn them off before shutting the vehicle down. Because if you just let them stop when the engine shuts off, they will freeze to the windshield where they stopped. When you start the engine the next day, the wipers will try to move. This can cause damage to the wiper motor or the linkage that moves the wipers back and forth. Make sure you keep your windshield washer bottle full. In the winter, use washer fluid that has antifreeze in it. A frozen washer reservoir won’t be of any help when you are trying to clear the windshield. It is a good idea to have extra washer fluid in the trunk so you can replenish the washer bottle when needed
