Answer:

The engineers I served with mainly ran cranes, fork lifts, and did basic carpentry.
This is not a weird habbitNearly every cat I have seen (except for a few rare breeds) have this habbit of digging their clawsI think its for a comfort reason, but also the fact that their just stretching and relaxing their whole paw all togetherThey tend to have their eyes half closed and looking quite content when they do thisBe happy that your cat is very relaxed with you around :) Its not a sign of traumatic kittenhood at all.
It is mainly die to booredomJust engage your cats by offering cat toysYour cat wants something to chew on! Give your cat kitty candy or something cewy like thatthis might help, because kitty food that is chewy tastes better than wood! you can buy these things at pet stores, and no, i have never had this problem, but i know enough about catsMaybe you are feeding your cat food tat is to soft! They try to contol thier teeth! Lack of attention or vitamin deficiency are the main causes of feeding wood by the catsKeep another cat of same age to play among themselvesAs bottom line, consult with your veterinarian to investigate possible medical causes for any behavior problems.
To solve the debate - the sucking is a sign of the cat being taken away to early, the kneading is a trait that almost all cats have and will haveIt is very much a comfort thing, it means he has adopted you as mom just as you adopted himBe happy, you are the most special thing in the world to him Just a tip, my cat does this too - I would suggest going to petsmart/petco and getting soft clawsthey really do work and they eliminate the digging into your skin during the kneading/nursing
Cats are weird there is no justifing what they do my cat (ditten) walks around the house meowing for an hour a day if not more althoguh what your cat is doing could relate to it fostering a mother complex to you also if they picked it up when developing teeth it has just now become a habit i wouldn't even try to stop it you will just cause stress to your cat is he timid at all?
