My lights keep flickering the battery back up for my computer clicks when the light flickers whats wrong w/ the electricity? Lights only flicker in living room bathroom though.
Although the flickering issue may not cause much harm to you, but lights when flicker in your living room and bathroom can beget a serious issue like loose service conductors and wires, thereby resulting in electrical fires or failure. Since you have already noticed the issue, you will again notice this, especially if you have the HVAC or other large electrical units running at the same time. So, don't delay. Call a local electrician right away.
Lights flicker from a variety of reasons, most common is a heavy load which intermittently goes on and off. The surge current during startup, will momentarily lower the line voltage, which you see as a flicker and the light dims momentarily. The heavier the load, the lower the voltage goes. The rason why you only see this in some rooms is that these rooms have lights which dim at a higher voltage than the rest. There is nothing you can do about this if the source of the load causing the problem is not in your house. Where I live in the Pacific Northwest, we have a lot of rainy windy weather and tree limbs fall across power lines frequently, causing momentary shorts which cause the lights to flicker. If enough tree limbs fall across enough lines and stay across the line long enough, the short will cause a circuit breaker to open and then the lights go off for a while, sometimes for days...
The force of electrical current flows back and forth 60 times in a second or 60 hertz. With this a pressure builds, the pressure is called amps. In a common home the most common circuit protection is at 15 amps. The pressure bleeds and can cause some weird things or even dangerous fires. So a grounding wire bare is added to catch this bleeding effect and ground it out to prevent or reduce fire hazards. In many light fixtures incandescent light bulbs are used. Any electrical imbalance can cause them to flicker or even blink off in some cases. A messy power supply will do this in many cases. This could be related to poor grounding of the electrical wiring. Many in light fixtures do not have a grounding wire hook up just hot and neutral. So they can blink with a change in current pressure to the lights. Some say ghosts do it. I don't get to talk to many ghosts but I do replace many old light fixtures and the blinking stops in many cases when I am done. Try asking and electrical handy man to look at the fixture and any switches to light. You may just need a new one. The pressure can wear out the fixtures over time and outlets and switches should be changed out once every 5 to 10 years. And the metal contacts on fixtures or the entire fixture every 10 to 20 depending on how it was made. The handy man should be able to tell you for certain. But as for ghosts, looking for trouble often finds you in it. Reading your bible is fine but staying away from trouble of the ghostly kind is always recommended. Let the dead be and forget their names.
you are drawing too many amps on a circuit. do you notice this problem say when ac kicks on or anything? or you turn on some small inductive load? a fan or whatever? doesnt really matter, you have too many appliances/loads plugged into the circuit. whatever the case, YOU NEED TO GET THAT CHECKED OUT. could be a faulty breaker isnt opening. so have it looked at by e-!
HHHmmm-does the flickering coincide with an air conditioner coming on or other major appliance?or hairdryer? If that's the case try plugging in the ac in another receptacle with the hope of that being on another circuit-I wouldn't use a real long extension cord though(various reasons)or better try to find another circuit for the PC-it should be a dedicated(only one receptacle)circuit anyway
