Question:

Loud firing noise from boiler every couple of seconds (even though it was off) and water gushing from overflow pipe?! Help!?

It started at 11:30 last night that the boiler made a loud bang noise , and then kept making a firing noise every couple of seconds. We tried turning it off but it was still going on, then our downstairs neighbours ( we live in a house with flats ) said water was gushing out of the overflow pipe really bad , so we had to turn off the water and then it stopped and the noises stopped to. Now it s the morning and we have no water , do you think it s safe to turn back on now?

Answer:

You are not intelligent enough to understand what happened, so no. Do not turn it back on. Water gushing out and no water are not consistent. Maybe a feedwater problem. Get a trained person to check your boiler. Flat renters have no authority to tamper with anything. The landlord should have been called immediately.
You must be able to isolate the boiler water supply from underneath it. Once you have done that you can turn the main supply to the house back on. You then need to call out a GasSafe registered engineer.
No you need to get a Gas Safe qualified engineer to come and look at it. If you know the make of the boiler then you should contact the manufacturer and they will be able to give you technical advice and suggest engineers in your area with expertise in repairing their make of boiler
the boiler pressure is set too high or the diaphram in the expansion tank has ruptured due to the high boiler pressure.
