Question:

Low tire pressure?

I have a 2010 focus, it says I have low tire pressure? Is this a big deal? None of the tires look flat. Can I still drive in it?I tried pumping air into it but the air pump almost electrocuted me :/Lol.Help??

Answer:

Low tire pressure can cause the tire to overheat, resulting in a catastrophic blowout and possibly an accident including injury or death, so yeah, it is a problem. That is why it warns you if you have tire whose pressure is too low. And no, you can not tell what a tires pressure is just by lookint at it. Nor do I understand how you could get electrocuted from an air hose.
Low Tire Pressure
Tire Pressure Low
this is very important as it effects the safety of your vehicle. At the very least it is inconvenient to have a tire go flat, at worst it could cause a major accident. run out and buy a tire pressure gauge, less than $5. I would stay away from the digital ones simply because they require batteries and you don't want to need it and have a gauge with dead batteries. You need to check the tire pressure with the tires cold. Best time to do that is after the car has sat overnight and before you drive off. Open your drivers side door and you will see a sticker on the door or the door jam that will tell you what the tire pressure should be on the front and the rear. Check all the tires and see which one is low. Once you find the tire, you need to figure out why it is low. If you the temp outside is really cold and the tire pressure is only down about 4psi, then you probably only need to top off the air. When the temperature drops, so does tire pressure. So all you need to do is top it off. If this is the case, then all the other tires will probably also need to be topped off. If the pressure is down by more than 4psi, you probably have a slow leak. In which case you should go to a tire shop to get it fixed.
Low tire pressure will effect the safety and fuel efficiency of your car. Although the tires may not look like the pressure is low the only way to know for sure is to use a tire gauge and check. If a tire looks low than it is WAY too low and dangerous to drive on. Technically you can still drive a car with low tire pressure but it is bad for the car and the tires. The tires will wear out incorrectly which means you'll have to replace them sooner or could cause a blow-out. The car also has to burn more fuel when the tire pressure is low so it costs you more at the pump. If you do not want to fill the tires yourself take your car to a garage or tire store. It will take less than 5 minutes for them to check your tires and fill them for you, they may even be able to teach you how to do it yourself! While you are there make sure to pick up a tire gauge, they are easy to use and by using one you will not have to question your tire pressure any more. The pressure in your tires will naturally change with the weather and temperature so it is good to be able to check and maintain your tire pressure yourself.
