Question:

Mercedes winshield wipers?

What causes the passenger windshield wiper on all models to swing in and out. What kind of wiper s it?

Answer:

On cars wth 2 windshield wipers the design of the wiper linkage causes the passenger-side wiper arm to have a different arc than the driver-side. The drivers blade always ends up vertical at the edge of the windshield, giving the driver the widest view of the road ahead.
There is a cam inside the wiper mechanism. The wiper arm has a roller at the lower tip that follows the cam and makes the arm go in and out as it sweeps. I don't know what you call it, I usually just call it a single-armed wiper?? Some models didn't do this, for example the early 190E's didn't, they just swing with no cam to alter things. Lately I think they've gotten away from that system. The Gov't determines what percentage of the windshield has to be swept and this dictates alot of it.
