It's impossible for a metal detector to attract anything. The BB was too small to set off the metal detector, they have a minimum size limit. Type of metal doesn't matter much in this case.
Metal detectors are there to find larger metal objects that is why it was not set off. Imagine stopping everyone because their zipper is metal
