Usually, they claim anything post 1980s isn't 'real metal' m/ The reason 'real metal' isn't made anymore is because its been done to death, so bands are gonna try to experiment and branch out a bit. There is no such thing as 'poser' metal. If a band utilizes metal elements (riffs, vocals, arrangements, drumming, etc) then they can be categorized as a metal band
Sounds like metal to me. Pretty decent metal at that. As others have mentioned, real metal is a term used by elitist metal fans who want to try and justify why the music they like isn't popular. Their logic is that people just don't understand it, and you have to be as cool as them to get it. Typical elitist douchebaggery. You see it in other types of music and, well, in just about anything where people will think they're cooler than you for whatever reason.
No such thing. Every band is contrived and ripping someone off in some way shape or form, even the bands that I like. I know that I don't care for the song that you linked. EDIT Did someone actually just call that death metal? This is so not death metal.
