Question:

Motorcycle tail lights?

I live in upstate NY and I know that tail lights on cars can either be red or amber, but does the same apply for motorcycles? I hate amber but I don‘t want to draw any more attention from the cops either.

Answer:

Yes, red is perfectly legal. Amber may not look the greatest but it will make you more noticeable to other drivers (and probably less from the cops). You could try a clear lens with an amber bulb, that's a pretty sweet look. Just an idea.
The tail and brake lights must be red. The license plate must be illuminated by a white light. Turn signals may be red, amber or white.
Only the signal light can be amber, bike or car. The tail/brake light must be red.
