Motorcycle tire, 190 50 17 for my Yamaha R1. Best and longest lasting tire for commuting?
I have a 2005 R1. The size of the rear tire is 190 50 17. Ive had Dunlops, that came stock. Then i switched to Pilot Powers with Micheline witch is a soft tire, right? Therefore wearing down faster then a normal tire? I use my bike to commute and the occasional run with the boys, so i want a tire that is gonna last me long. I called a dealer and i was told the Bridgestone BT021 is a longer lasting tire with harder rubber? I need advise. I would like to pay less then i did for the pilot power which was $165 just for the rear unenstalled.

Avon Storms, Metzler Z6, Continental Road Attacks - those are my favs. They have the best stick and the best wear . 5k - 8k on depending how hard you are on them. Some people swear by Michelin, BS and Dunlop, I have not had good results with them. Shop the net to get the best deals.

Adolfo, you own an R1! If you do a lot of commuting then I'm not going to harp on about sport tyres. Michelin have brought out a new dual compound tyre for sport touring but I cannot remember the name. If you have seen the Michelin ad with Nicky Hayden on it, that is the tyre! Bridgestone also have great tyres as well. You will find that the Pilot Powers are a dual compound as well but they are a softer all round compound than a tourer because they need to support the horsepower coming from the latest sportsbikes. Make sure if you do a lot of commuting you check your tyre pressures at least every two or three days or before going for a ride with the boys! If its too low you will wear the middle out no matter what tyre you have! One last thing, I would suggest spending some money on a matching front as well or you will compromise handling and stability! Troy
