Question:

Motorcycle tire wear?

Theres a small spot in the middle of my rear tire that has some exposed thread under the rubber, it‘s not very big just one spot about an inch long tops and maybe two(25?) quarters thick. My question is, will it be safe to ride today without catastrophic failure? The shop is closed monday (today) and im getting a new tire tomorrow, but I want to know if I can still ride until then. This is not a question for debate about tires. It‘s getting replaced tomorrow. The rest of the tire is fine no bad wear really just the one small spot it was scuffed. Thanks.

Answer:

Not safe you can have a blow out. I wouldn't even ride it to the shop myself. I would pull the tire and take it in for replacement.
yes you can ride on a tire that is of no good to anyone. would I NO but I don't want to throw my $10,000 Ducati down the road just because I was too cheap to replace the $400 tire 1000 miles ago I do wonder why people that ride bikes would risk there lives for the sake of a tire. the contact patch on the road is a couple of square inches with the cords showing there's not a lot of grip
If you have cord showing in one spot, the tire is obviously completely bald in the centre all the way around. The tire has been unsafe for quite some time now. The risk of getting a puncture is also quite high. I wouldn't ride on it, but the choice is yours. I currently have 3 wheels from my bikes in the trunk of my car, waiting to go to the shop for new rubber tomorrow? Why? Because the tires are finished, and it would SO ironic to have a tire failure on the way there.
