Question:

Motorcycle tires drying out (Sport bike)?

Here is my predicament. I bought a wrecked 2001 Yamaha R6 from a neighbor about a year ago and I recently got it up and running about three months ago. Right before my neighbor wrecked he had put brand new ( He might have put 300 miles on the tires) Michilen Powers on both the front and rear. Although the tires were new when he went down the totaled bike sat in his garage for about 3 years untouched. The tires do not have much wear but I am afraid to get low on corners because I don‘t know if the rubber is dried out or if the tires have a shelf life. When I pop the clutch in second gear I often feel wheel spin but the r6 is a more powerful bike then I am accustomed to so I don‘t know that is normal. Long story short, Is it dangerous for me to get low on corners because of my tires? Is it possible that they are dry and loosing grip?Any wisdom is welcome.

Answer:

Foods (dyes, preservatives, etc) do you avoid them altogether, or tend to limit them ? We tend to eat mostly fresh stuff anyways so this doesn't really play a part. When we buy flavored waters or juice i do check and will not buy the stuff with all the crap in them. the food pyramid ( 5 servings of fresh fruits and veggies a day, increase fiber, avoiding unnecessary fats and calories, etc) I don't worry about it at all, Breakfast and lunch are balanced and there is always fresh stuff to snack on, They have to rotate and limit their junk intake. additives in food,( such as growth hormones, or pesticides on produce, etc I don't really pay attention to how it was grown. environmental (such as weather conditions like red flag advisories, asbestos warnings, lead-based paints in housing and toys, and harsh detergents and chemicals) I do pay attention and use a lot of safe products As soon as the kids are gone I will go back to using the stuff that works. and for parents who smoke, do you smoke away from your children, or around them ? I smoke away from them outside. I don't hide it from them, They know the struggles I have gone through with trying to quit, Back and forth it's crazy.
An R6 cant wheelspin just from poping the clutch in 2nd. Its only 105 bhp. For the risk of breaking your nexk, just 2 new Dunlops or P Dragon Corsa's. ?200 (ish) fitted. No problems then.
According to tire manufacturers, this tire drying out( and the fine cracks) are caused by ozone from electrical motors and similar sources in his garage. I personally have ridden many different bikes with lightly cracked tires and have not had any problems, but that doesn't mean you will have good luck with your tires.
I heard that really only hormones added to livestock can affect a child's growth. but certain food dyes (red 40, yellow 1 and blue 1) can cause cancer [though you would have to ingest quite a bit of it.
