Question:

Motorcycle winter tyres?

I didnt go out on the road much last winter because of ice and snow but Im now wondering if its possible to buy tyres that have ok grib in winter. I know winter tyres exist - Do they have good grip?

Answer:

Studded tires are the only thing that work in ice and snow. Some places those are legal and some places you can't ride when the tires don't contact the pavement at all (like in ice and snow). You'd have to check local laws. Most people that use studded tires experience a LOT of ice or snow to make their expense worthwhile and most are probably on 3 wheelers of some kind, whether they be a trike or a sidecar. The grip is there, but it's a different ride.
Two wheel vehicles do not mix with ice and snow on the roads. Unless you have a serious death wish, forget it. or buy a Ural with a side car.
What everyone else said. The premise of street motorcycle tires - soft rubber than grips pavement better while cornering but wears quicker due to the friction - can't work on ice.think of how poorly it works on sandy spots in the road or gravel/dirt. If you're just talking about riding in the cold weather, when there is a break in the snow and ice, you would use the same tires but warm them up first so they soften and grip the road. Like you see race cars doing on the pace lap waeving back and forth. Do some slow donuts in the driveway.
