there are safety switches most time a beam of light from one side of the door to the other. When something obstructs this beam or there is a defective sender/receiver unit the door will not go up/down any further. Check for obstructions or if the send/receiver unit is bent. They should be facing each other and line up center to center
there should be adjustment on the unit.... mine has 4 screw like adjustments.... 1 for max travel up, 1 for max travel down and 1 for the amount of force used to close the door and 1 to adjust the amount of force used to pull it up... try to adjust the force which pulls it up... your manual should give instructions for tweaking the adjustments.... you don't want a lot of force pushing down.. especially if you have kids.... use a 2x4 place it under the garage door and when it hits it, it should reverse direction..... if that doesn't work check if the garage door is balanced, those coil springs can be adjusted, you garage door should be easy to raise by hand and almost hold itself up when open half way by hand... check for any binding in the track too
