Question:

my car is slower with a new axle on it?

just replaced my axle, yes it was installed properly, but when i had my old axle was on, my car got up and went. now it seems like its struggling to get speed. what could this be? does it just need broken in? i have a 93 hatch if that helps

Answer:

You should have the rechecked, probably the brake pads were put on wrong or the axle it self could be defective or they put the wrong axle (wrong application) but for sure no axles needs break in
it most likely the axles you had before were lighter, probably an after market brand axle, and the ones you have now are stock, and stock is mostly heavier, try to look at your old axles and see if they actually are after market
I'm thinking that your older one was polished smooth from wear and tear, try breaking it in. If the replacement has a guarantee wait up to that date and see if it still happens.
