The car is a 1993 pontiac firebird formula WITH DISC brakes. When driving, people tell me that my rear right tire moves in and out of the axle. To describe it better, its as if the tire is being pushed out and then drawn back in to the axle. I‘m pretty sure it‘s also the cause of the brake squeak that has plagued my car for the past few months.I took the wheel off and removed the caliper and bracket down to just the thing with the studs on it. I pulled on it and it moved in and out a decent amount, enough to be noticeable.I‘m thinking wheel bearing. Anyone know what this could be and how to fix it?
I have a flatbed trailer and move classics all the time. Trying to tow a car backwards is not a wise idea. There is also the potential for a wheel bearing to seize if it has been sitting for a long time. You should either put it on a flatbed trailer or have a professional rollback truck do the job. Having the car placed backwards on a flatbed trailer presents it's own challenges because of the weight distribution. You want slightly more in the front of the trailer so it will handle properly. I would suggest pricing a pro to do the job. They will get it there safely.
It is bad enough that bettman is destroying our sport, and now we are forced to contend with referees deciding playoff games! I am livid. The ducks must have paid off the zebras. that series is a damn joke. Calgary was giftwrapped a game 3 win moreso on a series of non-calls but there were a few questionable calss as well like that goaltender interference DIVE! CRAP The rangers are dominating atlanta overall, there have been a few shady calls but nothing that has effected the game (in what little of the series i have seen thusfar) Nashville getting away with being the 'gangsters of the NHL', bunch of thugs. Public accountability for the officials is the answer. If Jordin bigface Tootoo gets 5 games for a suckerpunch, Bob the linesman gets 3 for a blatant false call that directly effects a playoff game and you recall one of the officials that didnt make the cut this year. They also need to be fined. Dig into their pocketbooks and see how fast they start calling the games fairly and correctly. Also there should be a video official who reviews each call made on the ice and has authority to override a bad call. Or a blatant non call. The zebras shouldnt decide who wins and loses.
Credibility of Calls: 9 I don't expect the officials to be perfect. In the main, they get it right. Referee Interference: 9 (the official is part of play in every sport) War Room calls: 7 (not the easiest of jobs; I think it would be better for the league to have one of their own in the production room for all games to ensure better communication and ideally a quicker resolution) System of Suspensions: 5 (the league can, and should, make an effort to educate fans on the process and work with the local/national broadcasters on the process that would eliminate much of the confusion and mystery). Hooking/Holding: 5 (the key being consistency) Linesmen: 9 (nobody is perfect, but these guys generally do a great job) In the main, the officials get it right. Compare their work to the other North American sports leagues; the NFL has part-time officials (some of whom are well beyond their sell date), the NBA had one of its own in jail for gambling and betting on games, and MLB umpires are all over the board and several were morbidly obese (by comparison, Don Koharski is anorexic).
The thing with the studs on it is the outer end of the axle. Depending on how much movement you get it could be the bearing. You should have heard a lot of noise. At first I was thinking that you had a bent wheel. A tire shop can tell you that when they spin the tire on a machine. Just don't try driving it anywhere like it is. You could end up scoring the axle and then you would have to buy one of those also.
Actually there is a c clip on the end of that axle that is retained in the sun gear and by the planetary gear cross shaft in the differential carrier. There is always some in and out movement around 1/8 is normal. Keep looking for your brake squeak. Side to side movement may also be the entire axle moving under the car. Try duplicating by pushing on the fender and have some one watch the locating links rods and panhard bar.
