Question:

My grandma has a 1994 Lincoln Continental which needs some major repair. Is it worth it?

The rear air suspension is going. She‘s had the transmission and the head gasket repaired in the last few years. Her mechanic is telling her to get another car (used). Does this sound right? His logic is that the car is only going to need more repairs. However, there are only 62,000 miles on it.

Answer:

That particular model year Lincoln Continental was very problematic. The 3.8L V6 engines were head gasket and timing cover gasket leakers, as well as the air suspension systems. As already posted, the air suspension systems are VERY expensive to repair on this particular vehicle. With that said, she is better off finding herself a newer Crown Victoria, or Grand Marquis that will provide YEARS of trouble free service without the worry of having to repair anything expensive, while at the same time, providing her with a vehicle that rides just as smooth, and costs much less on repairs. Hope this helps.
The rear air suspension can be very costly to repair. If the cost of repair exceeds the cars value by 25-30%, your better off getting a new or used car. Every dime you spend on the Lincoln, is only extending it's life and not adding any value!!
What I would do would be to slam it with airbags, that would take care of the suspension problem and plus a lincoln would make a nice lowrider. Then all you'd have to do is put on some chrome rims, and pimp out the paint and stereo. Additionally, I guarantee you that if you just slam the car and then decide to sell it, some teenager or young person out there would be willing to pay top dollar for a lowrider.
