It just started out of the blue a couple of days ago. My driver‘s side windshield wiper works fine, but the one on the passenger side seems like it is delayed. It won‘t start moving until the driver‘s side one is about half way up, then it will move up with the driver‘s side one. They both stop together, the driver‘s side one all the way up like normal but the passenger side one stops about half way up. Then, they move down together at the same rate but since the passenger side one is only half way up it will slam down into the car and make a loud thump while the driver side one will stop at it‘s normal resting place.What could this be? I really don‘t know much about cars and so far my Google search hasn‘t really given me any answers. In case it matters, my car is a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue.Any help would be greatly appreciated! Some wiper arms are mounted using a shaft that is splined. Others use a nut that must be tightened. If there is a cap at the bottom of the arm, remove it and tighten the nut.

As noted above it could be the linkage but it could also be that the splines on the shaft that the wiper is mounted to, or the splines in the wiper are worn - not sure how it mounts but that 'nut' - 'bolt' - 'clamp' could be loose. Take the wiper off and look first - then check the linkage (first the easy job .)
