it starts to feed the paper but then it stops and says that there is a paper jam but when i took the paper out and put new paper in it does the same thing.. can someone please help me before my dad gets pissed!!!!

Look at the back sticker, if it says Ion Detection method there will be a Date Of Manufacture code. If over 10 years, replace it with a new Kidde unit, this is important if your smoke detectors are chained together. Replacing 1 bad 10 year old Ion Detector in a string of 5 is pointless, replace them all at the same time with new Ion Detectors and you'll be good for another 10 years service free. Use the Lithium 9VDC batteries and they will last for over 5 years. Some of the new AC powered residential Ion Detectors now have a built in 10 year Lithium backup battery factory installed in the unit with a plastic pull strip to activate the battery contacts at installation time.
