Question:

My Tv remote and panel controls don't work what can I do?

I tried setting it up like a monitor for my computer and after I plugging in the cables neither the remote nor the panel controls worked. I tried unplugging it and thought it would work but now I can't even turn it on. What can I do? Please help I really don't have the money to purchase a new one.

Answer:

There is one more thing to check. Since you omitted the brand of tv and the model, I don't know if there is a master power switch hiding on the bottom of the panel. I moved one and bumped the switch after I had fixed it. I had to tear it apart again only to find this switch. It was an Akai.
Let's hope you didn't short out the TV by plugging something in wrong. Try these steps. 1. Unplug all the cables you plugged into the TV. Have nothing plugged into the TV except for the input signal source (your antenna or cable or satellite connection, whichever is applicable). 2. Unplug the TV from electrical power. Leave it unplugged for about ten minutes. 3. After that time, and while stilled unplugged, press and hold the TV's main Power On/Off button for about 5 to 10 seconds. Release it. Repeat this process for each of the remaining buttons on the TV. DO NOT use the buttons on the remote control - only the buttons on the TV itself. 4. Plug the TV back in. Power it up normally. If it still won't turn on, check to see if the TV's Standby light on the front panel is lit. If it is not - then you have a power problem. Check your AC power source, AC power cord, and it's physical connection point to the TV. If they are all good, but you still have no Standby light - then the power supply is probably shot, or you have a blown fuse or power protection device in the TV. If the Standby light is on - press and hold the TV's Power On/Off button for 10 seconds or until it turns on, whichever comes first. If the TV powers up, it should start searching for input signals and loading any active channels into the tuner's memory. If it does not start searching for active channels on its own, go to the Setup (or Settings) menu and select the Channel Search function (may be called Auto Scan or Auto Search or something like that). Make sure you have the input source selected to TV (or RF In or Antenna, depending on the TV brand and model). If the TV still will not power up, it requires professional servicing from a reputable/qualified repair facility. Good luck.
