Question:

my windshield wipers quit working on my 1998 mercury sable?

MY windshield wipers quit working, i have checked the fuse and it is fine. when i turn the switch it sounds like it is trying to work but the blades just wont work, is there a mechanic out there who can give me some answers?

Answer:

The teeth on the gears are rounded off. I owned a 1999 Mercury Sable What a great car that is. I gave it to my sister and bought myself a 2005 Ford Taurus I hate it. Anyways, I think the bolt on the base of the windshield wipers is loose. Or if you hear the motor running it's not the motor. The gears in the base of the wipers is worn out.
Check at the base of the wipers. Sometimes there's a lock nut there that you can tighten. It's put there on some cars so the wipers motor doesn't burn out if you try to turn the wipers on when there's snow or ice on the windshield. Or, the motor could actually be burned out.
