I got a cable splitter and installed it on the cable going from my cable box to my TV to run a wire into the other room. The idea was to have it so the TV in the first room and the one in the second room would be controlled by a single cable box. I did it, but the tv in room 2 wouldn't work. I brought the tv from room 1 to room 2 and it DID work, which confused me. I also tried a completely different tv in room 2 which did not work. What would cause this this signal to only be compatible with that one TV? If it's relevant I have embarq satellite.
If you have satellite, why do you have a cable box? Are you talking about splitting a cable to or from your receiver? If so, which cable? The one that goes to the LNB or the one that goes to the TV? You cannot split a satellite signal. The receiver actually controls the LNB, and there's only one LNB. It would be like trying to split your telephone line so you could put two different telephones and call two people at once. Your description of your testing is extremely confusing. When the tv you brought from room 2 to room 1 did work, what was connected to the other side of the splitter? Are you saying any one TV works in either room, but you just can't get two at once to work? You need to clarify your description.
