Question:

New Transmission/T-Case/Axles for a Jeep Wrangler?

I am putting in a new rebuilt Chevy 350 Engine in a 1989 Jeep Wrangler. I am confident that I need to change out the tranny, t-case and axles to handle the power. I am thinking of a TH350 or a TH400 tranny. Any advice on the t-case, axles, etc? What‘s the best way to go about this? Thanks!

Answer:

The Axle from the 74 chevy will be too long to fit up under that jeep. I mentioned that too you once. If you want something that will give you good performance will little hassle I would stick with the TH400. They are practically bulletproof. Not sure what transfer case you would need but it would need to match the front and rear final drive gears. Other wise you will have one of the axles dragging when you put it in to 4 wheel. Honestly I thing you should look for a 74 CJ and pull the transfer case and axles out of that. It would be your best option. AMC used a lot of GM parts when they where building the CJ's.
I personal both a 2007 and 1995 wrangler with mushy tops. putting older jeeps by the vehicle wash is amazingly volatile, I under no circumstances might want to in my '95. I really have once positioned my 07 with none issues. in my opinion, i might want to dodge the vehicle wash in any respect circumstances. only because the stress can stretch the fabric, and if the proper is lose, it would want to spring a leak. the perfect way is to bypass to a self-washing vehicle wash, the position you administration the stress and hose.
