Question:

Over sensitive smoke detectors?

we just moved into a new apartment, and it has 3 smoke detectors hard wired, one on each of the 3 floorsfor the last two nights, when we cook something in the stove the smoke alarm just goes off. The first night i was making fries and there was NO smoke, just a slight smell of cooking fries, like that grease smell, but thats NORMAL. it stopped after like 30 seconds of me waving around the detector. Last night i was making a garlic bread, and again, you can obviously smell the bread cooking like normal, but there was NO smoke and the damn detectors went off! I couldnt get them to stop so i quickly ran to all 3 and unplugged them from the wall, because our landlord is in the other duplex right next door and it was 10pm, so out of respect i didnt want to wake them upwhat gives? i should be able to cook food normally and not worry about setting the damn detectors off. Im going to put them back in tonight because we want them to work in case of a fire, but this is annoying!

Answer:

Never happened to me, but I've heard of this before. Sounds like you're doing a good job if she's squirting.
lol, what he said, unless you'd sooner break in through a window? lol
10 years after the initial start up, this model chirps every 30 seconds to let you know it's time to replace the unit.
You can open it up and clean the sensor pad-round white cloth thing-with rubbing alcohol, let it air dry a couple of minutes, then put the battery back in.
