Question:

over winter black elephant ears?

how is the best way to over winter black elephant ears in Tennessee?

Answer:

Here in SC - zone 8 - they can stay inground year round.
I would guess it has 3:73 gear ratio.
An X model should have. A Dana 30 (oval shaped cover with metal fill plug) front axle. A Dana 35 (oval shaped cover with rubber fill plug) or a Dana 44 (octagonal shaped cover with metal fill plug) rear axle. You should find tags bolted on with the covers of both axles. If you tip your head to read them they have the axle part number on, and in the bottom left (as you look at it) the gear ratio. If you have a limited slip differential in the rear there will be two tags on the axle. One will state LSD (or LIMITED SLIP) USE FRICTION MODIFIER.
according to the part of tenessee you live in. i would dividle the bulbs and pujt some in the ground, and leave the rest inside. the bulbs outside should have about a foot of mulch with a tarp on top to protect it the bulbs kept inside will need to say dry and cool not cold. temps should be in the 50s. repot the indoor plants inside in febuary and take outside my late may. remover the mulch from the outdoor bulbs in late april
After you dig them up .Remove all the dirt and store them in a cool, dry, dark area like your basement. Store them in something like vermiculite or dry peat moss.
