I ride with either a head cover or my ski helmet which has ear flaps. I have winter gloves and of course leg warmers and winter bike coat. I do not ride my road bike when ice is present, because I've taken some bad falls on ice.
Even if your smoke detector has not been used to warn you of a fire the battery is still being used. That is why it is going off for no reason. It needs to be replaced. The best thing to do is replace the battery every day light savings time.
