Sometimes I feel like yahoo answers is page for lazy students to get easy answers. Or maybe schools and teachers are really that bad they don't explain anything? But lets to get to the question. What is potential energy? Complicated word for simple thing. It's the amount how much energy is stored by lifting something. Twice you lift, twice energy. And twice the weight twice the energy. And so on. If we lift car twice as high, the Answer is 4. Twice as much potential energy.
Weight times height (gravitational) potential energy. Same weight twice the height twice the energy. Same weight half the height half the energy. And so on.
