Question:

pipe insulation 10 points for best answer?

I live in a very cold part of the US, Northern michiganLast year one of my pipes in my unheated garage burst and caused alot of damageI wrapped the pipes in 1/2in foam insulation a week ago an i plan on wrapping on top of that R19 (6in) insulation to help out a little moreThe garage is uninsulated but the pipes are, How cold will the pipes be able to put up with with 1/2 foam insulation plus R19 wrapped around them? What else can i do to keep my pipes from bursting again? I CANT heat the garage, its too expensive.

Los metales y los alimentos se oxidan; ese es el sabor que percibesHave a nice day
well aluminum is a form of metal , trying spraying the pansome great non stick sprays out there these days.
It might be what else you are putting in with the chickenCertain foods will react with or even eat through the foil and bring out a metallic flavor.mostly acidic ingredients - Tomatoes, citrus, vinegars, salt - any of theses can have this effectI would suggest a pan release (spray) instead of the foilHope this helps :)
You have got to remember that no matter how much insulation there is around the water pipe there must be a tempdifference, Sooner or latter the temp will equalize and the pipe will become the same tempas the surrounding airHence it will still freezeOnly two suggestions is Let water drip, the colder the more the dripFlowing water can't freezeOr the heat tape.
