Answer:

Try cutting out cow's milk completely and then dairy completely just to seeI want to tell you that I'm having the exact same issues with my 8 week oldI breastfeed and I was supplementing sometimes with formula but took the formula out completelyI have tried to cut out everything from my diet (lol to where I am just drinking juice/water) and nothing seems to fix her gasShe gets bad gas and then she gets the painful kind which totally breaks my heartI do have an answer on what might help to relieve it temporarily thoughI have tried mylicon drops, little tummy drops, chamomile tea, massaging, leg movements and baby's bliss gripe waterWhat works the best is giving her the gripe water to get rid of the painful part of the gasShe still has gas but at least she's not whimpering in pain :( The second thing I do is massage her lightly in a clockwise motion and then pull each leg up to the right and left arm - then do bicycle motion and push the legs up to her chestThen I start with the massage and do it all over againIf you hold her knees to her chest for a while it sometimes comes out betterThe mylicon drops seem to work better than the little tummys but not as good as the gripe waterI can't figure out what it could be so I guess we just have to wait it out (may be her digestive system growing)My doc told me that it's just the way it is sometimes and she's had over 30 years as a doctorHope this helped you somewhat - Just know you aren't alone with this one!!
Yes, gassy foods can make your baby gassy! This happened to mineNow I don't eat too much broccoli, cabbage and cauliflowerI also cut back on dairy since this seemed to bother my baby tooBut soda won't make your baby gassy; but the caffeine CAN effect himIf I have to much caffeine by baby has a hard time sleeping! Try cutting out for a week or so which ever foods you think might be bothering him and see if he improves! If he does, add the foods back in one at a time to see which effect himAlso, make sure you burp him really wellIf the swallowed air doesn't come up as a burp then it will come out as gas! Lastly, many newborns seem to have gas as a way to help them pass their runny BMs as their young digestive systems get the hang of digesting foodSo give it some time and it may just lessen on its ownMy baby is now 6 months and I still avoid eating a huge plate full of broccoli (although I eat small portions now), and my baby doesn't have a gas problem anymore - and she was so gassy (very loud! It was kinda embarrassing when you were somewhere quiet)! So hopefully it will clear up for you too! Oh, and the gas drops didn't do a thing! Hope this helps!
We were taught in our breastfeeding class that there is no proof that this happens Well, we were proof! There were definitely things I would eat that caused more gasArtichokes being one of them haha(which is my favorite thing ever) BUT make sure you try everything you like oncebecause many things that were on the lists you find online caused no reaction at all to my baby girlI was grateful i didn't cut everything out because it wasn't everything that we personally had problems withSo yeaI totally think it can and does make a differenceButI've seen it say it doesn't in a few books, a pamphlet and again was told that at our breastfeeding class.
Contrary to some very stubborn myths, there actually is no correlation between a mother's diet and her baby's gasIt is actually the foreign proteins in the mother's milk from things such as dairy products that may cause problems for a babyThings like broccoli or beans do not cause baby gasThink about it logically; when we eat, only the nutrients from our food is absorbed into your bloodstreamThe byproducts which cause gas are not, hence why it is passed through our digestive tract and expelled through flatulence In terms of Soda, you burp out the CO2 directly from your stomach; none of it ever gets digestedSo to recap, only the nutrients of what you eat is absorbed into your blood, and therefore ends up in your breastmilkYou technically can eat whatever you like; gas is caused by foreign proteins in your milk.
