my mom called she lives about 30 minutes away. and she told me our german shepherd will walk a few steps then fall over. i dont have a car, my brothers away to college so my mom cannot take her to the vet tonight because she cant lift her into the car. about 2 years ago my dog wouldnt get up at all so we took her to the vet and she had a UTI. she was treated. she also has incontinence but from what my mom is telling me the dog will try to walk then fall. she is about 7 years old, pls does anyone know what this sounds like, or anything my mom can do overnight to help her.

Answer:

I know that when my boston terrier had limes disease she became lame. She would try to walk but just couldn't and that day if went from that to she couldn't get up at all. The vet said she could have been bitten by an infected tick months before the symptoms showed. I just needed to give her two different types of medicine for about a month and she was as good as new. I don't think there is anything you can do tonight just get her to a vet asap tomorrow!

There are ways to get a large dog into a car besides lifting it. She could roll the dog onto a blanket or old sheet or a tarp and drag it to the car. To get her into the car, she could place some sort of a ramp from the ground up to the door on the car, get inside and drag her up that. Aren't there any neighbors or firemen or someone that could help? Other than that, cranberry juice will help UTIs, and she would of course have to use something to get it down her, because I doubt she would drink it on her own. A turkey baster works well for this. Low dose aspirin might help the pain.
I would have a vet ruleout Lyme disease. Within a few weeks my dog started having noticeable symptoms of lameness in her hind legs and not being able to go up and down steps without assistance. She was never in any pain. I took her to the vet, and he did some tests and found she was positive for Lyme. He put her on some antibiotics and maybe something else (it was a few years back). That stopped the progression but she is still left with a deficit of lameness in her hind legs. When she runs, it turns into a bunny hop.
