power door and windshield wiper problems, Pontiac 2001 Montana?

Answer:

You probably have moisture on the circuit board that is bolted to the wiper motor. You can take it off and clean it with electrical contact cleaner and reseal it with a little RTV when you put the cover back on. That is the same problem I had with mine. I found a new motor and board at NAPA for $80.00 but tried cleaning mine first and it has been fine for 4 months now. If you do try to clean it make sure you mark where the wiper cam and wiper motor shaft so you line them back up right when you put them back together.
you have an electrical issue there with the wiper motor on it they have a unit built in them that makes it come back to the rest position, and its cheaper to replace the entire motor than to just repair that part of it,on the door lock the actuator probably has gotten wet or some moisture has got to it,that will cause the other problem your having, you probably will have to replace the actuator on it for it to work right again, that's not unusual for the wipers to do that ,especially on gm products, you can get a good used wiper motor off a salvage one for about 45 bucks, that should take care of that part of it and an actuator shouldn't cost over 15 bucks used either, and they will last as good as a new one probably will, good luck with it hope you get it straitened out.
Hi Charlie! I think I know what the problem is with the wipers, I've seen it several times. There is a problem with the wiper motor crank arm. There is a small arm under the crank that is spring loaded, this is what makes the wiper arms park. The spring either breaks or looses tension and the wipers will park straight up on the glass. It's a bit tricky to replace the arm if you haven't done it before as the crank arm must be timed or the wipers don't park properly. The part can be ordered from the dealer, I don't think you can get it from a parts store (but I could be wrong on that, never hurts to call around.) As for the sliding door problem, there were several things that went wrong with them, if I were you I'd go to the dealer and ask to see a service manual. There was a sliding door reinitialization procedure that you could try, it was kind of long but not too difficult to do. Also I seem to remember that some of them needed to have the rear door latch striker adjusted inward a bit and then they would work properly. The ones I remember had a symptom (when the door was working) if you watch the rear edge of the door when it closed via power, the rear edge would pull in to close and then it sort of moved out a bit when the power motor quit. If it does this you may want to try to adjust that striker. Hope this helps, good luck!
