Question:

Pregnant and work with cats. Safety tips please?

Im almost 5 weeks pregnant but my job involves taking care of someone in her home who owns many cats. Some are inside, aome are outside. Total of 25 cats probably. Im worried because even though I rarely handle any of their waste, it is pretty much everywhere. And places that its not.. it probably WAS at some point in time. I cannot quit my job or else I will have a hard time supporting my child. But I will quit if Im putting my baby in danger. I have plans on picking up some blankets to lay down on the furniture where I'll be sitting, and gloves and face masks. But I really want to know if there's anything else I can do. Thank you.

Answer:

Well, my detector was beeping every three minutes starting about fifteen minutes ago. The light was steady green. I pushed the test button, and it did its test beep, then stopped. No more beeping. I'm going to get a new battery anyway.
It depends a lot on the brand of smoke detector. Typically, a steady green light simply means that it is receiving AC power. The low battery warning chirp will continue until new batteries are installed.
in the US there is the Salvation Army or The Goodwill Store - and most likely you will get a receipt so you can write off on your taxes - or you can donate to your local church or thrift shop or simply drop in the Red Cross or Big Brother/Big Sister bins - but maybe you could sell some on - baby clothes are BIG sellers
First you will need to make a plan, Start with the supply line and measure it, Is it 1/2 3/4 or 1' pipe. Get a compression fitting that fits it and a PVC fitting for the other end, Now you can start using PVC, Plan your route as to where the pipe is going to hang, Buy the elbow 90's ,,straight connectors and plenty of pipe. You will need a hand saw and a can of PVC primer(purple stuff) and PVC cement(Clear stuff) and some Emory cloth. Pre cut your pipe and fit it together and then go back and primer glue the parts together and whem you push the parts together give it a lttle twist, You only have a few seconds and it is stuck for ever so pay attention. Be sure to use hanger straps and secure the pipe to the wood so that it doesn't jump around when the water comes on. use a threaded end connector at the other end and secure your fauchet and use water line tubing to connect it, mount yout fauchet well and turn the water on slowly at first. check for leakes and you are done.
Well, you should have just gotten the new batteries right away; so many fire deaths occur while people are waiting for new batteries, largely because they ignore the beeping until it is too late. Best to get in routine and change them every time you change clocks in fall or spring. If she pressed a button with battery not in it, she very well could have confused the electronics, which are more complex than you realize. Try taking all of them off, putting in new batteries and then seeing what happens. The one smoke detector may be shot. If you have to replace, spend the extra few dollars and get combination smoke/carbon monoxide. Green generally means every thing is okay. Regardless, just get the new batteries. 16 bucks (at most) is a hell of a good investment instead of dying by fire or smoke inhalation, which can happen in seconds since most fabric and furniture padding/stuffing is made of artificial fabrics and materials that become lethally toxic the minute the fire hits them. The new fires also spread much faster than the old stuff
