Question:

Pressing flower petals... please help!!!?

Okay, my grandma bought flowers from my sister's school fundraiser. When we brought them to her house and took the plastic wrapping off, natrually, some flowers petals fell off. I looked at them, and they were in the shape of hearts! I think they'd be perfect for a Mother's Day card, but I need to know how to press them, and I DON'T have a flower press. Thanks!

Answer:

Depending on how much time you are allowed to prepare the flowers, is the method one must use. If time is rushed.. One can press the flowers with sheets of wax paper and an iron. Turning the iron on low and iron the flowers between two sheets of the wax paper. Do not over heat the wax paper and make sure you have the paper facing the correct direction as not to get any wax on your iron.. Typically this would be the shiny side facing each other. If one had a bit longer to wait, you need some very large books and place the flowers between the pages.. and set other books on top to act as a press. Shops like Fed-Ex/Kinko's offer a laminate servers with you can do yourself.. they that for the fastest way to press small flowers.
You okorder /. ...click on the category in list at top of page called *Dried Nature* ...then scroll down a few screenfuls to the subcategory called Quick Drying Flowers Plant Material.... the last paragraph there is probably what you want (which uses plates and paper towels in a microwave) HTH, Diane B.
In the past I have just placed in the petals in the pages of a large and heavy book. Close the book and leave the petals in there. The paper helps absorb the moisture and the pressure helps flatten the petals.
