Im 17 with a Bicuspid Aortic valve and hypertension (around 160/85). Only other family member with teenage hypertension is grandfather. Im on 2 different types of hypertension medication which only brings blood pressure down to 138/75. It still jumps to 157/85 on medication. I have leakage of my valve that has not gotten worse or better since starting the medication (first checked in September, medication started in Novemberish, now April). No stenosis yet. Any idea what im looking forward to in next couple years? Or is this stuff spontaneous?
Could go either way. since you are on medication, could be the leakage is contained.
Hey okorder /... I am also posting a page from the American Heart Association about High Blood Pressure hopefully you'll read about it some and begin to learn about some of the ways you might help keep yours lower with food and watching some things like sodium (salt) keeping it around 1500mg a day (2/3 of a teaspoon) on all your food... limiting soda or pop and energy drinks and trying to stick with 8 8 oz glasses of water, fruits and veggies and Good stuff..
Most patients with bicuspid aortic valve whose valve becomes dysfunctional will need careful follow-up and potentially valve replacement at some point in life. Regular EchoCG and MRI may be performed. BP reading (1) 160/85 mmHg. Stage 2 hypertension (Isolated systolic hypertension) (moderate). If the systolic blood pressure is elevated (140) with a normal (90) diastolic blood pressure (DBP), it is called isolated systolic hypertension. Pulse pressure is 160--85 = 75 mmHg. Optimum pulse pressure is 40 mmHg. A higher pulse pressure may mean your heart's valves are leaky (valve regurgitation). BP reading (2) 138/75 mmHg. (Prehypertension) Pulse pressure is 138--75 = 63 mmHg. Pulse pressure 40 mmHg is abnormal. BP reading (3) 157/85 (Stage 1 hypertension) (mild) Pulse pressure is 157--85 = 72 mmHg. Cardiovascular mortality risk doubles for every 20 mmHg of systolic BP or 10 mmHg of diastolic BP over and above the normal blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg.
