I have a dell studio 1555 the charger is breaking and ive done all sorts of repair work, i found my old dell and it came with an 150WATT charger (Latitude D420) and the charger with the 1555 is a 90watt. i was wondering would i be able to use the 150WATT charger? I didn't want to use it just in case. Thanks in advance.
Look at 2 things on both chargers, (1) Voltage and (2) Amps. If both of these (AND I MEAN BOTH) along with the fitting is not the same then forget it. Why screw your laptop for the sake of a few $'s or ?'s.
Yes. You can use the Dell Latitude D420 150watt charger on your dell studio 1555 which requires 90watt. They are likely to be compatible. I copy the following checklist from lifetime warranty topmic charger website 1) Output Voltage is within +/- 5% of your old charger's output. For example, if your old charger provides 19.5V, then you can use a charger that provides 20.5V or 18.5V. 2) Output Current is the same or higher than that of your old charger. For example, if your original adapter provides 3.42 Amps, then you can use a charger that provides 3.42 Amps, 3.9 Amps or higher. 3) Connector tip must fit securely into your laptop.
No the fittings are different.
depends if it fits and whether it's polarity is the right way round not to mention the volts has to be about right plus if it needs a central pin or not(in the bit you push in) if it needs a pin and doesnt have one then it will like as not fail to charge. be careful if it is incorrect polarity it will go bang. and be rendered useless the laptop that is
You can use a higher wattage charger ONLY if the volatge is the same. No ands, ifs or buts about that fact. If the voltage is the same, and the plug is the same type, go ahead A higher wattage charge wiith the same voltage just means it can pump more current at that voltage, but if you only need 1/2 the current, the charger just supplies what current you need, nothing more
