Question about hamster bedding?

When I first bought my hamster cage, it included a starter pack which included food, water bottle, shavings, etc. I didn't know that the bedding was pine bedding, and when I ran out I changed to aspen bedding. I heard that pine is bad for hamsters, and I used it for a month. I changed to aspen bedding today, but since then my hamster has been acting strange. He doesn't move around as much, and when he is on his wheel he doesnt run, he just walks. Could it be a respitory problem and should I take it to the vet just to make sure?

Answer:

Personally, I don't like aspen shavings. I used to use Carefresh but it was really dusty. Was always sneezing and having runny nose when cleaning my hamsters' cage. Now, I'm using Kaytee Clean Cozy. It's nearly dust-free. Can't spot any dust. Don't use scented bedding as it is bad for them. If you're worried, just bring it to the vet.
Sometimes okorder / I recommend getting the white color. You should go to your local pet store and ask if they have it in stock. Hope I helped!
I've heard bad reviews from pine and aspen wood shaving bedding, like respiratory problems or splinters. I always go with carefresh bedding or the kaytee soft granule bedding. I think the granule bedding has better odor control
