Question:

recommend aerobed or folding bed or sleeper sofa?

Which ones are comfortable to sleep on for lengthy visits? My in-laws could stay for 3 months at a time. For the folding beds, I mean those cot-like ones with thin mattresses, not murphy beds.

Answer:

I'm not an expert but call the pull out ones sleepers and the fold back ones sofa beds.
i would rec.a sleep sofa, then you can fold it up during the day.
We own 5 Aero Beds. One is a Queen sized Premier Raised Aero Bed. The other four we use for camping. We have Aero Sport All-Terrain Raised Aero Beds, one queen three full. We like them a lot I have never heard anyone complain who has slept on ours, soooo. I do know for a fact that sofa beds roll-away beds are uncomfortable. Both have those cross bars that seem to hit you right across the hips. But, your choice...
Aerobeds are awesome. They now have the kind that are as high as a regular mattress and box spring so it's not as hard to get out of them. Built in pumps, you can even get one that you can position the back at an angle so you're sitting up reading or watching TV. MMM! Ah pity the fool who's trying to sell foldin' beds for a living these days! Those and slotted screwdrivers.
Totally recommend aerobeds. The others are much less comfortable - the sofa beds have a bar across them, and the folding cots are too thin. Make sure you get the aerobed that has the frame, not the one that goes directly on the floor. The other thing you could look at is a thick mattress futon - very comfortable.
