Whel the factory i can help i spent days surfing the web for this same answer i actually have a 96 as well .i brke my key to bits and later discovered it had achip in it completely disableing the ignition if the theft or passive anti theft system or PATS is tripped the car assumes it being stolen hense once you get it to start it immediatley cuts off its the ignition theres no trick,fuse way to bridge wires nada that will get the evil lil symbol off the dash you gotta bring it to ford i knw it sucks but to date i havent found a way around it i was charged 1 hrs labor 90.00 + a set of chipped key butdepending on the problem cash isnt the big problem its how your getting it to ford lol
Now after reading this that I am fat with more of a life than you and need to exersice more. Other than that 5 or 6 people have told me to go home and kill my self and they ment it so not doing to good at this point.
