okay i am planning on getting a new exhaust system on the honda civic that i‘m going to buybut i was thinking the real job of the intake system and engine was getting as much air into the engine as it canand the exhaust system gets the left over miterials out of the car as fast as possibleso wouldn‘t it just better if i had the exhaust system to be modified to where the muffler came out instead of the back of the car but somewhere in front of the back tire, behind the passenger door?
not really no.there are two reasons. First: a motor needs a certain amount of backpressure to run at peak effeciency.shortening the exhaust you may actually hurt your performance Second: putting the exhaust exit in that area, you are risking carbon monoxide getting into the car.this will make you the most grumpy slowest guy on the streetbut hey at least you look cool driving around with your exhaust tips coming out under the door like nascar.oh wait you drive a civicyou can never look cool in that car!!!!
Not really. In an unrestricted system, the pressure at the front of a pipe is identical to the pressure at the rear of a pipe, so a shorter pipe will not reduce pressure, although it will alter the exhaust sound. Moreover, your Honda might rely on engine back pressure to operate the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation valve) and reducing back pressure might affect the engine's performance. A wider pipe would be much better at reducing the pressure than a shorter one, though.
in a way you are correct, BUT a better solution to get more air in and out faster is this cold air intake with high flow filter sport header (not the cheap look alikes) high flow cat or a cat delete cat back exhaust (mandrel bent with 2.5 inch piping) the cat back exhaust will give you more hp than just hacking off part of your current exhaust because. the pipes are bigger, they are mandrel bent, meaning they don't restrict air flow as much as stock saying that, yes your way will give more horsepower, but not nearly as much as the right way, plus your not breathing in carbon monoxide every time you come to a stop
