If the officer had probable cause to search your auto the officer would not have done so.As far as you breaking the law driving without a license was plenty of enough reason to conduct a search. There you have it. The Reason.
Terry frisk. The officer always has the right to search your person and the person of anyone else in the vehicle for weapons, for his own protection. Without probable cause, he cannot legally search the car for anything other than weapons, and those weapons have to be within reach of where one of the occupants was sitting. Of course, if he finds something while searching for weapons that gives him probable cause for anything else, then he can search for that anything else.
