Question:

SHOULD I CLEAN THE HAMSTERS TUBE?

Our hamster loves to make a bed in the plastic tube and not in the bed I bought (typical!). We clean the cage once a week and empty the tubes. Should we do this or should we just leave all the sawdust where it is?

Answer:

Mine did exactly the same thing. Yes clean the tube, take out all the sawdust and bedding. But save a little of the old sawdust (just not some that's been pee'd on. Then clean the tube with disinfectant. Put the little bit of dirty sawdust back into the tube. The add clean sawdust to the rest of the cage. put the bedding into the bed you bought, but chances are she'll just move it back into the tube
If the tube smells or if your hamster urinates in it, definitively clean it. If it doesn't smell, you can leave it alone or clean it.
Well, we always clean mine. I mean, sometimes that is what is stinking up the cage, so we just clean it out and then it is all better. You probably should clean it out. I clean mine out every week. Hope this helped.
I doubt they use the bathroom in the tube, but if they do, yes clean it out. If they want to, and they probably will, they will build another bed there anytime they feel like it
I clean everything in my hamster cage, just leaving a handful of the old bedding in so the hamster can smell himself, as doesn't get stressed. I then just place everything in the cage and let hammy sort it out. It gives him something to do and lets him arrange it how he wants it, rather than me putting in in and him arrangeing it anyways!!
