Question:

Should I get a car before getting a motorcycle? What kind of gas mileage does a 09 Honda CBR-600 get?

I want to get a Honda CBR 600, but I don‘t know if I‘m tall enough for one. I want to go to ODU in VA beach. I am 5 foot 8 or 5 foot 9 and still in high school.

Answer:

Go with the car first. My 2008 Hyundai Elantra gets about 33 to 34 mpg. No safety gear needed. Will keep me dry in the rain, warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and will carry 5 people. Car has a huge trunk. Sport bikes can carry about next to nothing. Remember, sport bikes are nothing more than street legal race bikes. No special endorsement to my driver's license. Warranty is second to none for any other car or motorcycle. Tires will last around 50K miles. Sport bike tires will last about 5K to 8K miles. Get a price on rear tire replacement for a 600 CBR. Times that number by 6. Cost will shock you. Insurance is waaaay cheaper. Buy a car first. Good Luck with school
ANY kind of heat is bad for your hair.
Car - Bike? Its a hard one. My CBR600 F4 uses 5.5L per 100Km. A 2009 will do a lot better than that as Fuel Injection is a better system I suspect 4L per 100Km. You should not make the choice bike - car based on running cost as I believe that the bike has many hidden cost. As an example. Tyres. While a bike only has 2 wheels the tyres wear very quickly compared to a cars. In part this is reasonable as a bikes tyres are under a greater load. While you only need two, they do cost a lot more to buy than car tyres. Parts are the same, or cheaper. Another cost is the helmet and riding gear. My point is. You should ride to ride as its an excellent experience.
I have an 2002 CBR600f4i and get around 30 miles per gallon with that bike, maybe can get slightly better mileage when I am on the highway but not much better. I have modified this bike anyway I could and you may get 35 miles per gallon with a stock bike, bone stock, no exhaust, no pc, nothing changed. Last year I got a new 2007 CBR1000RR and it gets about the same mileage as my other bike but is not really as comfortable. I would suggest starting out on the 600 if you have no sportbike eperiance. Have fun with the new toy.
