Question:

should i replace both tires?

I recently found out that I have had a nail in the sidewall of my Right rear tire. I am assuming that this has been going on for the last 4000 miles. Now, before I go replace that tire, is it necessary for me to replace the Left rear tire so that I have even tread?also, how many miles should i replace all tires? the tires have traveled 10,000 miles. Thanks in advance

Answer:

If it is on the side of the tire you need to replace it. There is no plug for this type of damage, and not worth the price of a fix. The issue is what the tire may do at high speed. If it is on the tread. no problems. As far as life of the tire there is a gage you can use, but there is also a wear indicator on the tire. most tire will get 30K or so
unless the other tire is worn quite a bit you only need to replace the damaged tire.Replacement of all the tires will be based more on your driving and maintenance habits than actual miles.Have them rotated every 6,000 miles and check the air on a regular basis
