Question:

Skateboarding?

Alright just so you dont have to ask any questions and can answers mine im going to explain everything. Im 12 and im fat and i want to get into skateboarding. I have 45 dollars to buy a board. I live in a trailer park so i can practice around my place. I dont have a car so i'll prolly have to buy a board at walmart. I dont want to look like a retard falling off of my skateboard every three seconds or to look like a poser. How long of a board should i get? I was thinking 31 inch thats the longest they have at walmart. How do i now look like a poser, because i hate when people say that i am.? Does walmart sell blank skateboards? I dont want to buy one and not like the sport. There are very big speed bumps in my trailer park so should i practice on them? and if you have any tips please help me out. thanks

Answer:

They become less sensitive through time. I recommend my clients replace them about every 7 years, which is manufacturer's average usable life span. Keep them clean, don't paint them, change batteries once a year whether they are beeping or not.
No, but their sensitivity can change with time. The authorities say they should last 10 years. I have one made in the 1960's that still works within spec. My advice is to check them frequently, change the batteries (if any) when they beep and clean them with a vacuum cleaner if they seem too sensitive.
Most smoke detectors have a radioactive isotope that is the heart of the system. The decay rate of this isotope is such that after 10years, the original function and sensitivity is not there. Smoke detectors are so inexpensive these days that the benefit of spending 10-15$ to get a new one to protect your family and home is a no-brainer to me. If any doubt, please get a new one for your family.
At what distance, I don't know, but the Fire Department, or city/county planners office should. The hydrants get their water from the same water mains that your drinking water comes from. As far as a new hydrant is concerned, they either turn off the water when ready to connect a new one, do the installation and turn the water back on, or they can do what is known as a hot tap. A hot tap is where they have dug down to the main water line, as they would anyway, connected the base for the new hydrant to the main, and with a plug in place to keep the water from shooting out once the pipe has been penetrated, a hole is drilled into the pipe. Once they are through, the drill bit is pulled out through the valve and the valve is closed once the bit is clear of the valve seat. The rest of the hydrant is put in place, and the control mechanism to open the valve used in the hot tap is connected to the top of the hydrant. Generally, they just turn off the water and make the connection. Some people go without water for a few hours when this is done.
Yes they do eventually. Especially in a house where people smoke, there is a lot of dust and dirt, or there is high humidity. The sensor doesn't work as well as a new detector. But that could be 20 or 30 years. Are you having a problem or just curious?
