Question:

Smoke alarm (new battery) still beeping, wire underneath?

I just replaced my smoke alarm then when I stepped down the ladder it started to beep again. So I wonder what in the hell is going on. So I untwisted it to remove the smoke alarm from the sealing. I found out the there's wires attached to it. (red/black/yellow) The yellow isn't attached. Most of my smoke alarm are just battery operated, this is my first time seeing this. And the beeping is annoying. Someone help!

Answer:

Sounds like to me the smoke detector is defective, disconnect the hardwiring and the battery and get it replace with a new one. You will have to shut off the eletricity, then disconnect the wires, use wire screws to cover the wires if you don't have a new one to install, or you could just call the fire department in your area to have them come look at it.
There could be a specific type of ion in your homes atmosphere that keeps it going I had one that did like that periodically, like it had a mind of it's own, finally just took the battery out of it and left it be as I have others as well
Have the same situation. Discovered that the one beeping wasn't the one that needed the battery. I changed batteries in all the alarms and haven't had the problem since.
Most do these days, but not all elevators are new. Older ones had detectors in the shaft only and if you go back far enough it wasn't required at all. Depends on the age of the elevator and the upkeep it's seen over the years. Al Edit: I hereby defer to SolidAxle as upon further investigation I find that he is 100% correct. Elevators *cars* do NOT have smoke detectors. Shafts and lobbies, yes, but not IN the car. You'll have my vote when the time comes as I appreciate learning. Thanks SolidAxle. Thumbs up already given. Al
the smoke detector has gone bad. When you say it is hard wired there should be a plug in the back. Push together and pull it back out. get a new one that has the wiring and put the new plug in you may have to change the plug if you do change by wire colors they should match up.pull the new battery tab and you are good to go.
