Question:

smoke detectors in rental aparment?

Is it the responsibility of the landlord to outfit a rental apartment with smoke detectors? how many should there beone in every room? thanks.

Answer:

If the are rather old, Ive seen where in a fire, with just heavy smoke, the smoke detector did not go off. Its seem like these things are hit or miss if they work. Which really baffles me. I would contact the company that made them, at the very least they should send you replacements for free. If not buy new ones and test the monthly. Its also, possible that they got caked up with junk from the cooking thus rendering them inoperative. The other thing I would think is call the local or visit the fire department with one or tow of the detectors and see what they have to say. At least you know they give it to you straight.
Lint roller. Vacuum. Depends on the fabric what will work best What I do is keep a cover on my futon then wash it every month or so. The best way to keep cat hair off the couch is to GROOM your cats. Cat can't help that they shed - it's the natural process of their hair growth. If this is a shorthaired cat then give it a good brushing at least once a week. If it's a longhaired cat use a comb and comb the cat at least every other day to remove the loose hairs of the undercoat.
