some tire belt is showing?
Some people's got no idea what they're saying At the tire shop they will be able to tell you how wide you can go 295 for sure maybe more A vehicle that's got wider tires it's got more surface on the road so it will waste more gas but nothing serious and let say you gonna go on a long trip you just rise the tire pressure and that's it, wider tires in a rear wheel drive truck like yours will give you more traction which is awesome and you should have not that wide tires in the front so you get better cornering and such, 255 front 295 rear following the tire size from factory it's only for people that's got no idea what's going on and also the factory it's always looking to minimize expenses when making a car unless it's a performance vehicle now related to snow or rain well as long as u have 65% thread on it you will be fine.
Cliff is correct and I agree with him. you are pushing you luck if you value your life. To think he received a thumbs down for his answer. but we all know most thumb downers here on YA are not that smart, and as you see the thumb downer didn't have an answer.
if you value your life, get that tire off the road now. either the tread will seperate (search firestone tires and ford exploders), or the tire will just blow. either one can cause loss of control of the vehicle and a serious accident. the wires are not visible because the tire is worn, or you corner hard all the time, or even a bad alignment. they are visible because its OLD, the same reason the sidewall looks the way it does. PS, if you happen to live in bay area cali, please get that tire off the road. i dont want myself or my family involved in your tragic accident.
I looked at the picture, sorry your tire is beat. If the chords are visible in any part of a tire it is unroadworthy. That's the technical definition, but honestly as a mechanic the tire is not safe to drive on. When the tire starts doing that the tread can peel off and that's bad news. Of course if your plowing snow in the back forty I wouldn't worry for a few months as long as you stay under 30 MPH.
