Answer:

No, the alpha, beta and gamma radiation from such places cannot be felt and can only be detected by sensitive detectors which use the ionisation principle to detect the radiation. We can only feel visible, infrared and may be to some extent, low ultraviolet radiation, as heat.
I am SOOOOOOO glad that you did have the CO monitor installed! You need to research WV's law on housing landlord/tenant issues. Contact your local legal aid society to determine if representation is readily available w/o hiring a private attorney. Locate a WV tenant advocacy group, if possible. Contact the bldg. inspector of your municipality immediately. Ask to get a copy of the inspection report Certificate of Occupancy (CO) the landlord is required to obtain before renting/leasing the premises. The landlord is required to maintain the habitability of the premises during the term of your occupancy. Specific requirements for the installation of the CO monitor will be determined by local ordinance; again, the local bldg. inspector will educate you on this. This is a matter of the implied warranty that the premises are suitable for the use intended. Without a working heating system adequate to maintain stated temps (for example: 70 degrees) between certain dates (for example: October 1 to April 30) in a location of a certain design temperature (for example: 15 degrees), the premises would be considered a sub-standard dwelling illegal for occupancy, particularly in exchange for rental monies. I'm not sure it would be relevant in your city, but you might also want to research the International Property Maintenance Code, as revised in 2003. It's a very reliable standard for general discussion it's available online. You will also need to obtain a written report from the Fire Chief. Best of luck! Kiss your daughter for me!
